Next Stop, Rejection City!I've got 150 pages left to review on my ms for like the fifty-millionth time. (Thank God I'm not prone to exaggeration.) And, what am I doing? Posting on my wonderful, glorious blog. And that's after commenting on some of my personal faves and surfing the net for wildly important information that I couldn't get through my day without; like the woman who has two husbands and lives in a perfect fairy tale world (that reminds me of a dream I've had a few dozen happy nights, but I doubt it works quite the same way. If it does, she's one lucky and satisfied gal!), or the six bodies worth of bones they just discovered in NM (ah, hell, they were probably all drug addicts and prostitutes, so who cares?), or the fact that poor, little Sarah Palin is "feeling beaten up" since scrutiny has been so intense since the election (now she knows how America felt before the election having to watch her and her grandfather run for office!).
Anyway, my point is, I'm avoiding the real work I've got to do. Why? Two reasons. (I've thought this thing through pretty thoroughly, kids.) 1) I love to procrastinate; 2) If I'm really, totally, completely, thoroughly done with my ms, then I have no choice but to start pounding the pavement to find an agent. (Translation: Ride the train to Rejection City, not my favorite destination *wink, wink*.)
By the end of the day I'll hear the conductor shout, "All Aboard!"
OK, fine. I suppose there's no use avoiding the inevitable. After all, what is life if not one, long, fun, and sometimes utterly depressing ride?

Amy, Thanks. As always, you're too kind. Believe me, I wish I was FAR more motivated and energetic!! I think I'm just impatient.
Here's an idea: challenge yourself to see how many rejections you can get by, say, June. That way you have something to brag about when you finally get published.
I'm not just being stupid -- this honestly works. I love telling people how I wrote ten books and got over 400 rejections before I landed an agent (which is why I look for reasons to bring it up).
Ray, You're my hero. Seriously. I hope I'll have the gusto to keep on working through the storm of rejections that will surely come my way. (I've already had a few, but I haven't been counting. Perhaps I should!)

I can always tell when I'm procrastinating on something truly undesirable--that's when I decide to clean the bathroom. That's about the only time.

Angie, Who knows? Maybe it will be a really SHORT trip! That would make me very happy. I doubt the pics would be too inspiring, but I'm sure I'll have fun with the story part.(There's always more room for evil princes and princesses, aren't there?) ;-)
food for thought: The Harry Potter first book was rejected by tons and tons of agents. I bet they feel like complete asses now! That one person who accepted her is the only one that really matters. All you need is one, for a golden ticket!
But see, the best part about that ride is that there's always that slight, miniscule chance that the train will make a sharp turn to the right and you end up in a place with pretty flowers, yummy cupcakes, margaritas, and an agent in good shoes who loves your book.

Oh you are scared of success arent you? What if it happens, the big book deal. It could. It may and it probably will. Go on because then you can inspire the rest of us. You have done the hard part hey? You have written it and that in itself needs a big pat on the back and a glass of champagne. BUT how are the rest of us going to be able to read it if you dont get it published. So quit reading about the woman with two husbands (umm would you mind sending me the link as I am kinda curious myself now).
Seriously I am the same when it comes to the important stuff truly. I am going to will you to do the last bit. Its like losing weight - the hardest part is the last couple of pounds. Not that I would personally know because I never get there. But you can FINISH this and I can say I knew that woman when she was just a blogger!!!!
